Variety Fernette
Origin:
A pollinating variety resulting from the crossbreeding between Franquette and
Lara ®, quite recently carried out by INRA (1995)
The tree:
- average vigour
- semi-erected to semi-spread out bearing
- late bud-breaking: around April 20th - 30th
- Anthesis: rather late, around April 25th - May 10th
- very important anthesis: Fernette is an excellent pollinator for Lara variety and for the beginning of the female flowering of Fernor
- late female flowering
- fruiting on lateral twigs
- better fruiting and yield than Franquette
- rather impervious to anthracnose, moderately sensitive to blight
The fruit:
- large, slightly elongated walnut
- thin, well joined nutshell
- light coloured kernel, nice taste, very easy to break
